Minister Naledi Pandor, Minister of Science & Technology, invited 9 budding young scientists to listen to her budget speech on Thursday, 21 May 2015. These bright young learners were all winners at the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists International Science Fair in October 2014. They will be representing South Africa at international science fairs in Belgium and London in the next 2 months. The learners represent some of the 33 Eskom Expo regions across the country.
They are Neelan Gouden from Northern KZN, Bongani Shube from Ehlazeni, Rickus Kriel from Northern Gauteng, Yolanda Zakaza from Welkom, Taskeen Alli from Bophirima Central, Nonsikilelo Mpungose from KZN Central, Mthembu Nondumiso from Northern KZN, Jenna Goosen from Johannesburg and Jeanelle Jefthas from Westcoast.
Their day started at 07:30 with a visit to the exhibition at Company Gardens in Parliament Avenue, followed by lunch in parliament then onto the budget vote at 14:00 in the Old Assembly Chamber Parliament. For all these young learners, this was an experience of a life time to spend time in parliament as a special guest of Minister Naledi Pandor, who is always supportive of Eskom Expo for Young Scientists activities.
The Eskom Expo for Young Scientists inspires and ignites learners to discover their passion to explore - not only the world and how it works, but it also means that you can explore your true potential as a young scientist. The Eskom Expo for Young Scientists drives this theme.
