Eskom Expo for Young Scientists invites professionals and university students to contribute their academic and specialised expertise by becoming judges at the upcoming Regional Science Fairs planned in 38 regions across South Africa, as well as the Eskom Expo International Science Fair (ISF).
Participating in the Eskom Expo offers an educational and inspiring experience for the diverse learners involved. To achieve this, we need judges who are experts in their fields to guide and motivate these young scientists. Judges serve as ideal role models for our impressionable youth, and mentoring a young scientist is a rewarding way to share your knowledge and give back to the community.
Professionals such as engineers, doctors, veterinarians, teachers, lecturers, researchers, scientists, and IT professionals are being sought. Teachers can earn SACE Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points, while scientists registered with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) can earn Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points. Other professionals can obtain credit through their respective professional bodies.
Judges are essential in making the interview experience positive for every participant, supporting Eskom Expo’s mission to inspire young researchers and foster a love of science. To qualify as a judge, candidates should:
- Hold a qualification in any field of science, including natural sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities, medical sciences, engineering, or IT;
- Be specialists or practitioners in any field of science, preferably related to scientific inquiry;
- Possess a teaching qualification in any field of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
